Dog Cherry Eye Surgery Cost & Symptoms
Introduction
“Cherry eye” is the common term for a prolapsed gland of the third eyelid. It appears as a red, fleshy mass in the corner of a dog’s eye. While not always a dire emergency, it can lead to chronic dry eye and infections if left untreated.
Symptoms
- A red or pink “blob” in the inner corner of the eye.
- Excessive squinting or pawing at the eye.
- Clear or thick discharge.
- Redness of the conjunctiva.
Surgical Costs
Modern vets recommend “tucking” or anchoring the gland rather than removing it, as removal leads to permanent dry eye (KCS).
* Unilateral Surgery (one eye): $600 – $1,200.
* Bilateral Surgery (both eyes): $1,000 – $1,800.
* Follow-up Meds: $50 – $150.
